"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all."

—Thomas Jefferson.

"This is a time for courage and a time of challenge. Neither conformity nor complacency will do. Neither fanatics nor the faint-hearted are needed. And our duty as a Party is not to our Party alone, but to the Nation, and, indeed to all mankind. Our duty is not merely the preservation of political power but the preservation of peace and freedom."

—John F. Kennedy Undelivered Speech, Nov. 22nd,1963.

"The legitimate object of government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done, but cannot do at all, or cannot so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities. In all that the people can individually do as well for themselves, government ought not to interfere."

—Abraham Lincoln

"I shall seek the support of the people of both parties. I can do this honorably because I am an independent and therefore in a position to serve the people regardless of their politics or mine."

—Governor Earl Warren

About The Author

A Political Scientist with a concentration in Political Philosophy and International Relations. I am a fierce Independent who believes Political Parties create group thinking rather than good thinking. I love to write and I am an Inductee of The National Political Science Honor Society. This honor is most likely due to a fortuitious clerical error.

Third Party Watch Article Shoddy Pseudo Journalism And Inaccurate.

I am an Independent. I am not a member of any political party. I am not a Republican, Democrat, nor a Libertarian. I only declare myself a member of a Party on the day of primary elections in order to vote in my state's semi-closed primaries. I am a declared Independent.

In Memoriam

Tony Snow

I am deeply grieved at the death of former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow. Tony Snow was diagnosed with colon cancer three years ago. His mother died of the same disease when he was just seventeen years old. Mr. Snow died of complications related to the cancer. He was only fifty-three years old.

Tony Snow was a political philosopher, political journalist, speech writer, author, political advisor, news anchor, radio talk show host, political columnist, political television commentator, White House Press Secretary to President George W. Bush, and Chief Speechwriter to President George H.W. Bush. As his friends have remarked in the days following his passing; Tony Snow was a "Renaissance Man". More importantly, he was a wonderfully kind and gentle man. I always deeply admired Mr. Snow because of his political philosophy background, my own academic concentration, and respected him for his intellect, sense of humor, and humility.

Tony Snow was a man who had accomplished so much in his life, and yet he never forgot his greatest accomplishments of all; that of husband to his wife Jill, and father, to his daughter Kristi, daughter Kendall, and son Robbie. Mr. Snow's family is in my thoughts and prayers.Tony snow possessed remarkable courage while fighting cancer. He was a devout Roman Catholic and fought the diease with his faith, family, and friends. He showed enormous grace under the most difficult circumstance a person can face; their own mortality, and he nerver blinked.

Mr. Snow remained kind, loving, faithful, and optimistic until his last breath on this earth. He once said to others stricken with cancer to not allow cancer to define who they are, and to live every moment to its fullest. Tony Snow lived every moment with a fierceness and intensity that I will always admire. I remember watching Tony Snow every weekend afternoon on the Fox News Channel, and as host of Fox News Sunday. I was always impressed with his intelligence, wit, and ability to disagree during a heated political debate without being disagreeable. I will miss him so very much, and the world is a better place because Tony Snow lived.

Tony Snow once said every man sees some foolishness when they look in the mirror, therefore everyone should be humble. This humble man who passed from this world far to soon will be mourned at his funeral Thursday, by the President of the United States, and a previous President of the United States.

Well done, Tony Snow. Goodbye friend.

Tim Russert

I am unable to write how deeply saddened and shocked I am at the passing of Mr. Tim Russert.

Tim Russert collapsed and died suddenly of a heart attack while recording voiceovers for Meet The Press.

NBC's Meet The Press is the longest running television show in the world, in its sixty-first season, and is the most successful and prominent Sunday morning political show in television history.

I watched Meet The Press for as long as I can remember when I was a very, very, young little boy. Tim Russert's fierce and passionate love for politics was infectious, and he was a large part of why I came to love politics myself.

Tim was renowned as the greatest political analyst in American history, and the toughest and sharpest interviewer. For nineteen years, as Moderator of Meet The Press, he interviewed the most spectacular figures of history: Presidents, Senators, Congressman, Royalty and two Popes.

More importantly, he was a wonderful man by all accounts. Tim was humble, kind, compassionate, witty, and selfless. Simply look at how individuals are describing him and how deeply they are grieving, and you get a measure of the man. He was an incredibly intelligent and gifted man, and yet his humility made him seem just like everyone else.

Out of all of his astounding accomplishments; political strategist, lawyer, journalist, author, Meet The Press Moderator, NBC News Washigton D.C. Bureau Chief, his own proudest personal achievement was that of father, to his son Luke, and husband, to his wife Maureen.

When Tim was asked about his own personal political philosophy, he would always reply that he was an Idealist. He explained that he loved politics so much, because he loved America so deeply, and believed that politics was the expression of the desire to keep Her great. His own father would say to him "Is this a great country, or what?".

Mr. Tim Russert was the brightest star in American politics. That star has now been extinguished, and his voice silenced. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and a prominent writer in her own right, Maureen, his son Luke, who just graduated from Boston College, and his father, who Tim wrote about in his famous book "Big Russ and Me." A story about his loving relationship with his father.

Tim Russert was a deeply devout Irish Catholic, and he named his son after St. Luke. Tim's favorite passage from the Bible was:

"To whom much is given, much is expected."- Luke 12:48

Tim felt he had been blessed with so much in his life, that he was expected to help others for the greater good. He donated countless hours, and millions upon millions of dollars to charities.

He gave the world, and me, so much. The world is a better place because he lived. I can see that now, even through my tears.

God Bless Tim Russert.
